Gerber or 4NT Quantitative?

WARNING! The following post talks about GERBER. Gerber is a bid used by more experienced players. If you are a new player do NOT bother reading this post. When you have played a bit more and know a bit more you can learn Gerber. For now, do not bother.

This post tests your knowledge of bidding either 4♣ (Gerber) or 4NT (Quantitative) over a 1NT opener.

Please read the following posts for a review:
Bidding - Responding to 1NT with a Balanced Hand
Gerber - To Bid or Not to Bid?

Many players think you MUST ask for Aces in order to bid a slam. This is not true. You only ask for Aces if you need to know how many Aces Partner has in their hand. If you do NOT need to know that information then don't ask for it.

Take this hand:
♠AJ6
K8
K864
♣AJ64

You have 16 HCP and Partner opens the bidding 1NT. Should you ask for Aces? No. You do not care how many Aces Partner has. You need to know if Partner had 17 HCP to open the bidding 1NT or only 15 HCP. If Partner had 17 HCP you want to be in 6NT. You cannot be off 2 Aces. But if Partner opened the bidding with 15 HCP you don't want to be in 6NT -- even if Partner has 2 Aces. You just won't have enough tricks.

On this hand you would respond 4NT. That asks Partner to bid 6NT with a maximum and Pass with a minimum. Which is exactly what you want Partner to do. You don't care about Aces. You care about how many HCP Partner has.

Take another hand:
♠6
AKJT876532
4
♣4

If Partner opens the bidding 1NT you don't care how many HCP they have. The only thing you care about is the number of Aces Partner is holding. They could hold the ♠KQJ, the KQJ and the ♣KQJ. All those cards are USELESS to you. Even the Q is useless to you. You know Partner has two so the Q will fall if the opponents have her.

With this hand you would respond 4♣ (Gerber) to ask Partner how many Aces they have. Then you would place the contract appropriately.

Let's test this out. On each of the hands your Partner opens the bidding 1NT. Your turn to bid. Do you ask Partner about their point count by bidding 4NT or ask Partner about the number of Aces they hold by bidding 4♣?
