Blackwood or Quantitative?

Now that you have learned Blackwood let's see if you can tell the difference between 4NT Blackwood and 4NT Quantitative.

An easy way to remember is that 4NT Quantitative occurs after the FIRST bid by the Partnership was some number of NT or the LAST bid by the Partnership was some number of NT. This is not always true but for the most part is. Some of these are tricky! Think carefully as to what each bid means before you answer.

  1. You need to add this to BBO website. Very nice.

  2. I would appreciate your comments in auction #13
    NT-2H*. 2S-4C* 4H*-4NT
I would interpret 4C* as a splinter promising six spades
4H* first or second round control therefor
    4NT Is Blackwood

    1. In Standard American 4 Clubs in this auction is Gerber. You and your partner can agree to play this as a splinter (and if you do know how to play splinters this is a perfect time to do it) but most newer players do not know how to splinter and/or cue-bid.
